About
Lakeside Campground sits near the dam at Rainbow Lake in the Pinetop-Lakeside area of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Established as one of the oldest National Forest campgrounds in Arizona, the site offers a scenic setting among Ponderosa pines at approximately 6,000 feet elevation, the lowest in the White Mountains. The campground provides basic camping facilities for tents, trailers, and motorhomes up to 32 feet. Its location near Rainbow Lake offers convenient access for fishing and water recreation. Much of the land surrounding Rainbow Lake is privately owned, with the campground occupying a small parcel of public land near the dam. Due to its relatively low elevation compared to other White Mountains campgrounds, the area experiences milder conditions, though winters can still be cold. The Lakeside Ranger District manages recreation in this area.
