Gentry Group Campground

Open

Open for the season. The campground operates from May 1 through Columbus Day annually. Individual sites are first-come, first-served. Group reservations available through Recreation.gov.

About

Gentry Group Campground is positioned on a ridge that divides two canyons in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests of eastern Arizona. At just over 7,700 feet elevation, the campground offers sweeping views of Black Canyon Lake and the forested hillsides and canyons beyond. The area is relatively flat with sandy surfaces, sheltered among towering ponderosa pines interspersed with fir and oak. The campground consists of 5 individual family sites or can be reserved in its entirety as a group site accommodating up to 50 people and 6 vehicles. Each site has a picnic table and campfire grill. A vault toilet is provided, but there is no potable water on site. Due to limited maneuvering space, this campground is recommended for tents or small campers only. Recreation opportunities include hiking, photography, and wildlife viewing. Visitors can often see a herd of wild horses that frequent the area. The campground shares its location with the Gentry Lookout Tower. Gas, phone, and groceries are available approximately 10 miles west at Forest Lakes or 13 miles east at Heber on Highway 260.

Directions

From Heber, travel approximately 13 miles west on AZ Highway 260. Turn south onto Forest Road 300 and continue approximately 4.5 miles, following signs to Gentry Lookout Tower. The campground is located adjacent to Forest Road 300 near the lookout tower.
