About
Gentry Group Campground occupies a scenic ridge location that divides two canyons, positioned at the base of Gentry Fire Lookout at 7,725 feet elevation. The campground features relatively flat, sandy surfaces sheltered among towering ponderosa pines interspersed with fir and oak trees. From the campground, visitors enjoy views of Black Canyon Lake and the forested hillsides and canyons beyond. The facility consists of 5 individual family sites that can be rented separately on a first-come, first-served basis, or the entire campground can be reserved as a group site accommodating up to 75 people. Due to limited maneuvering space and gravel roads, this campground is best suited for tents or small campers rather than large RVs. Recreation opportunities include hiking, photography, and wildlife viewing. Located within the Heber Wild Horse Territory, visitors frequently observe herds of free-roaming wild horses in the area. The campground provides picnic tables, campfire grills, and vault toilets, but campers must bring their own drinking water. Gas and groceries are available 10.5 miles west at Forest Lakes or 13 miles east at Heber along Highway 260.
Directions
From Heber, travel west 13 miles on Highway 260 to the junction with Forest Road 300. Turn south on Forest Road 300 and continue approximately 4.5 miles, following signs to Gentry Lookout Tower. The campground is located adjacent to Forest Road 300 at just over 7,700 feet elevation.
