About

Los Burros Campground is a free, primitive campground located at 7,900 feet elevation in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The campground sits at the edge of a scenic meadow characterized by aspen trees scattered throughout the area. Each of the 10 campsites includes a picnic table and fire ring. The site holds historical significance as a former Forest Service Ranger Station. An old barn and corral from that era remain on the property and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Horse camping is permitted, making this a popular staging area for equestrian users accessing the surrounding trail system. The Los Burros Trail #631 originates nearby, covering more than ten miles through mixed conifer and ponderosa pine forest. On clear days, hikers can see Flagstaff's San Francisco Peaks from the northwest slopes of Wishbone Mountain. The campground is fully primitive with no potable water, no garbage services (pack in/pack out), and only vault toilet facilities.
