About
Santiam Flats Campground occupies a scenic location at the eastern end of Detroit Lake where the North Santiam River flows into the reservoir. The campground features 31 campsites, with 26 single sites and 5 double sites that can accommodate trailers up to 30 feet in length. Most sites offer views of the lake, and some are located adjacent to the shoreline where mooring is permitted for paying campers. The campground is equipped with picnic tables and fire rings at each site, with drinking water available from faucet risers located throughout the grounds. Three vault toilets are strategically placed in accessible locations. Trash receptacles are provided, though campers should practice Leave No Trace principles. Note that there is no day use area or boat launch ramp at this campground. Detroit Lake offers excellent opportunities for sailing, boating, water skiing, and fishing for catfish, rainbow trout, and Kokanee salmon. Nearby hiking options include the Stahlman Point Trail with views of Detroit Lake and the surrounding Cascade Range, as well as the accessible Hoover Nature Trail. The campground's location in the Willamette National Forest provides access to approximately 1,700 miles of trails ranging from easy low-elevation paths to backcountry wilderness routes.
