About

Cove Creek Campground is the largest U.S. Forest Service campground on Detroit Lake, featuring 63 campsites split between two main loops plus a separate group camp for up to 70 people. Located at 1,600 feet elevation on the shores of Detroit Reservoir, the campground offers a mix of wooded and open sites surrounded by towering Douglas fir trees that create a secluded atmosphere. While close enough to hear passing boats, most sites lack direct lake views. The campground provides accessible flush toilets, drinking water from faucet risers throughout the site, and coin-operated showers. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings. The adjacent day use area features approximately 1,000 feet of shoreline, a boat ramp, and courtesy docks for loading and unloading only (no mooring). Detroit Lake is popular for boating, jet skiing, swimming, and fishing for rainbow trout, Kokanee salmon, and catfish. The Stahlman Point Trail begins a quarter-mile from the campground entrance, meandering through younger Douglas fir forests with memorable views of Detroit Lake. Additional hiking trails across the lake lead to Dome Rock and Needle Rock. Reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance through Recreation.gov, with some sites available first-come, first-served.
