About

Cove Creek is the largest National Forest campground on Detroit Lake, offering a mix of wooded and open sites surrounded by towering Douglas fir. The campground sits at 1,600 feet elevation on the reservoir's shores, close enough to hear passing boats but without direct lake views from most sites. Detroit Lake covers 3,500 acres and is a popular destination for boating, jet skiing, swimming, and fishing for rainbow trout, Kokanee salmon, and catfish. The campground features 55 single sites and 6 double sites laid out in two main loops, plus an accessible group site accommodating up to 70 people. All sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Four flush toilet buildings serve the campground, with two containing coin-operated showers. Potable water is available from faucet risers throughout. The adjacent day use area includes a boat launch with two courtesy docks for loading and unloading only. The Stahlman Point Trail begins a quarter-mile from the campground entrance, offering views of Detroit Lake through younger Douglas fir forest. Additional trails across the lake lead to Dome Rock and Needle Rock.
