About
Piety Island Campground offers a distinctive camping experience on Detroit Lake in the Willamette National Forest. Accessible only by boat from various launch points around the lake, this island campground features 22 campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Uncut firewood and driftwood are available on the island for campfires. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. All sites provide excellent views of Detroit Lake and the surrounding forested mountains.
Boaters can access the campground from the northeast side of the island, launching from Mongold State Park, Detroit Lake State Park, Detroit Marina, Kanes Marina, Detroit Flats, Hoover Campground, Cove Creek Campground, or Southshore Campground. The closest boat ramp is at Cove Creek Campground, though parking may be limited during peak season. During winter months when water levels drop, the island may become accessible on foot depending on conditions.
The campground offers vault toilets but no drinking water, so campers must bring adequate water supplies. Popular activities include fishing, swimming, boating, and waterskiing on Detroit Lake. For those seeking adventure, a short but challenging hike leads to the top of Piety Knob for panoramic views. The campground is a popular spot for watching the annual Fourth of July fireworks display over the lake. Dogs are permitted but must remain on leash at all times.
