About
Detroit Lake State Recreation Area sits along the shores of Detroit Lake, a nine-mile-long reservoir surrounded by forested Cascade Mountain terrain. The large campground accommodates 270+ campsites in a wooded setting, though highway noise is audible from many sites. The facility includes 107 full hookup sites with electricity, water, and sewer, 68 sites with water and electric hookups, and 96 tent sites. Eight ADA-accessible sites are available throughout the campground. The park serves as a hub for water recreation on Detroit Lake with two boat ramps and boat mooring facilities. Fishing for rainbow trout, Kokanee salmon, and catfish is popular, along with boating, water skiing, and swimming. The nearby Mongold Day Use Area, located 1.5 miles west, provides additional lake access with a swimming area and picnic facilities. Campground amenities include hot showers, flush toilets, and picnic tables at each site. Full hookup sites provide sewer access, though no dump station is available for those without hookups. Generators are not permitted. The park typically operates from mid-March through October, though water levels fluctuate seasonally. The area is within the Marion County permanent quarantine zone for ash, olive, and white fringe tree materials.
