Open for the 2026 season from April 24 through September 30. Both reservable and first-come, first-served sites available. Reservations via Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance. Fire bans are common during summer months. 14-day stay limit in a 60-day period.

* WHAT...Temperatures of 36 degrees or lower will result in frost formation. * WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Oregon and southwest Washington. * WHEN...From midnight Friday Night to 9 AM PDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Frost and freeze headlines are only issued through the growing season of April 1 through October 31. Therefore, frost or freeze headlines will not be issued beginning November 1, even though similar low temperatures are possible. Additionally, frost and freeze headlines will no longer be issued this growing season for the Upper Hood River Valley, southern Willamette Valley, south Washington Cascade Foothills, and north Oregon Coast Range as these locations have already experienced a hard freeze earlier in October.
About
Southshore Campground provides a quieter alternative to the more crowded camping areas around Detroit Lake. Located on the lake's south shore near Piety Knob Island, the campground features two loops with 25 single sites and 5 double family sites. Sites 4-11 are designated walk-in tent-only sites where RVs and trailers are prohibited. The remaining sites accommodate trailers and RVs up to 30 feet in length. The campground offers a mix of wooded and open sites surrounded by Douglas fir groves. Amenities include vault toilets, drinking water via individual faucet risers, trash receptacles, and fire rings and picnic tables at every site. No hookups or dump station are available. Coin-operated showers can be found a mile away at Cove Creek. Detroit Lake spans 3,500 acres and is popular for boating, jet skiing, swimming, and fishing for rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, and catfish. The adjacent day-use area has approximately 1,000 feet of shoreline and a boat ramp with courtesy docks. Hiking trails to Dome Rock and Needle Rock are accessible across the lake, and the Cascading Rivers Bikeway draws cyclists.
Directions
From Detroit, Oregon, travel east on State Highway 22 for 2.7 miles to Blowout Road (Forest Service Road 10). Proceed on Blowout Road 4.7 miles to Southshore Campground on the right.
