Located at 1,604 feet elevation on the south shore of Detroit Lake, Southshore Campground offers a quieter alternative to the busier portions of this popular 3,500-acre reservoir. The campground provides 30 family campsites divided between two main loops, including 25 single sites and 5 double sites. Campsites 4-11 are walk-in tent-only sites with no RV or trailer access, while other sites can accommodate trailers up to 30 feet in length. All sites are equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, and a mix of wooded and open sites are available surrounded by groves of Douglas fir. The campground offers vault toilets and drinking water via individual faucet risers throughout the area. A boat ramp and two courtesy docks provide direct access to Detroit Lake, a popular destination for boating, jet skiing, swimming and fishing. Rainbow trout, Kokanee salmon and catfish inhabit the lake. The day use area features approximately 1,000 feet of shoreline with a dock for launching, loading and unloading only. The site includes approximately 43 parking spaces at the boat ramp area. Coin-operated showers are available about a mile away at Cove Creek Campground. Additional recreation opportunities include hiking trails across the lake leading to Dome Rock and Needle Rock, the nearby town of Detroit with local activities, and the Cascading Rivers Bikeway for cyclists. The campground operates on a reservation system through Recreation.gov with some first-come, first-served sites available, and offers Scan and Pay for convenient onsite payment.

Directions

From Detroit, Oregon, travel east on State Highway 22 for 2.7 miles to Blowout Road (Forest Service Road 10). From Idanha, Oregon, travel west on State Highway 22 for 0.7 miles to Blowout Road (Forest Service Road 10). Proceed on Blowout Road 4.7 miles to Southshore Campground on the right.
