About
Sandy Park Campground is situated just below Kaw Lake Dam in a rural, wooded setting that provides both sunny and shaded campsites along the Arkansas River. This peaceful U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground features 12 electric campsites with modern amenities, making it an ideal base camp for exploring the Kaw Lake area.
The campground's location offers exceptional recreational opportunities. Hikers and horseback riders can access the Eagle View Hiking Trail, which runs approximately 12 miles along the eastern shore between Osage Cove and Burbank Landing. Equestrians can also explore the Five Fingers Equestrian Trail that extends from Burbank Landing to Sarge Creek Cove Public Use Area. The on-site boat ramp provides easy access to the Arkansas River and Kaw Lake for boating, fishing, and water sports.
Kaw Lake is renowned for producing some of Oklahoma's largest catfish and offers excellent opportunities to catch crappie, sand bass, and walleye. Hunters will find abundant populations of whitetail deer, turkey, quail, rabbit, and squirrel. During fall waterfowl seasons, the lake attracts large numbers of migrating ducks and geese. Winter visitors often spot migrating bald eagles, as Kaw Lake hosts one of the state's largest bald eagle populations. The area also features several historical sites, including Native American settlements, archaeological sites, and the Pioneer Woman Museum.
