About
Pioneer Cove Day Use Area offers a lakefront group picnic shelter on the scenic banks of Kaw Lake in north central Oklahoma. Located near Kaw City and Pioneer Cove Marina, this facility provides convenient access to one of Oklahoma's premier fishing destinations. Kaw Lake is known for producing trophy catfish, along with excellent populations of crappie, white bass, and walleye. The 17,000-acre lake with 168 miles of shoreline was completed in 1976 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The area attracts outdoor enthusiasts year-round with diverse recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, hunting, and wildlife viewing. During fall and winter, the lake becomes a prime destination for waterfowl hunting as migrating ducks and geese congregate in large numbers. Winter visitors often spot bald eagles, as Kaw Lake hosts one of Oklahoma's largest populations of these majestic birds. The surrounding landscape offers hunting for whitetail deer, turkey, quail, rabbit, and squirrel. Several historical sites are nearby, including Native American settlements, archeological sites, and the Pioneer Woman Museum.
