About
Sandy Beach Day Use Area sits along the banks of Kaw Lake in north central Oklahoma, convenient to the dam and Hideaway Marina. Completed in 1976, Kaw Lake covers 17,000 surface acres with 168 miles of shoreline, providing recreational opportunities for anglers, swimmers, and wildlife watchers.
The lake produces some of Oklahoma's largest catfish, along with crappie, white bass, and walleye. During winter months, Kaw Lake hosts one of the state's largest populations of migrating bald eagles. Hunters can pursue whitetail deer, turkey, quail, rabbit, and squirrel in the surrounding area, while fall brings large numbers of migrating waterfowl.
Sandy Beach offers a reservable picnic shelter, vault toilets, volleyball court, designated swim beach, and day use picnic areas. The area is within reach of several historical sites including Native American settlements, archaeological sites, and the Pioneer Woman Museum.
