Fremont-Winema National Forest 14 Day Stay Limit
Camping or otherwise occupying any location on the Fremont-Winema National Forest for a period longer than 14 calendar days, and/or for more than 28 days total during a calendar year is prohibited. [36 CFR 261.58(a)].
About
Located about 40 minutes southwest of Paisley, Oregon, Sandhill Crossing Campground sits along the North Fork of the Wild and Scenic Sprague River at 6,303 feet elevation. The campground occupies a peaceful setting of lodgepole pine and open meadow, making it an excellent base for river fishing, wildlife viewing, and day hiking in this remote corner of the Fremont-Winema National Forest. The campground has five individual sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. A single vault toilet serves the area. Water availability from the hand pump should be confirmed before arrival. There is no fee to camp here, and sites are first-come, first-served with no reservation system. The remote location and light usage make it a favored spot for hunters in the fall season. The campground is managed by the Silver Lake Ranger District. A 14-day stay limit applies to all camping on the Fremont-Winema National Forest.
Directions
From Paisley, OR take Highway 31 north toward Silver Lake and turn left on County Highway 2-08/Mill Street. Continue right on Forest Service Road 3315. At the junction with FS Road 28, turn left. Then turn right on FS Road 3411 and continue to the campground. Alternatively, from Bly, OR take Highway 140 east toward Lakeview, turn left on Campbell Road, then right on FS Road 3411 to the campground.
