Fremont-Winema National Forest 14 Day Stay Limit

Camping or otherwise occupying any location on the Fremont-Winema National Forest for a period longer than 14 calendar days, and/or for more than 28 days total during a calendar year is prohibited. [36 CFR 261.58(a)].

About

Clear Springs Campground sits at approximately 5,400 feet elevation along Dairy Creek in the Paisley Ranger District of Oregon's Fremont-Winema National Forest, about an hour southwest of Paisley. This primitive free campground offers a mix of dispersed camping spaces with minimal developed infrastructure, making it ideal for those seeking a backcountry experience without venturing far from road access. The campground provides basic amenities including potable water from faucets, one vault toilet, a shared picnic table, and a fire ring. There is no garbage service, so campers must pack out all trash. The 14-day stay limit applies forest-wide. The site sees its heaviest use during hunting season, as the surrounding forest provides good habitat for game. Anglers can pursue rainbow trout in Dairy Creek, which runs directly alongside the campground. Access requires navigating forest roads from Paisley, Lakeview, or Bly, with the final approach via Forest Road 2800-047.

Directions

From Paisley, head west on Mill Street which becomes Forest Road 33. Continue 20 miles, staying left. At the T-intersection with Forest Road 28, stay left and continue 2 miles. Just before crossing Dairy Creek, turn right on Forest Road 2800-047 and go 4 miles to the pull-off marked Clear Springs. From Lakeview, take Highway 140 west 3 miles, turn right on County Road 2-16 for 5 miles, then left on County Road 2-16A which becomes Forest Road 28. Follow FR 28 for 19 miles, turn left on Forest Road 2800-047 after crossing Dairy Creek, and go 4 miles.
