About

San Angelo State Park encompasses nearly 8,000 acres of West Texas landscape along the shores of O.C. Fisher Reservoir and the Concho River. The park preserves both natural beauty and Texas heritage, offering visitors a look at the official Texas longhorn and American bison herds in dedicated viewing areas. The park is divided into North and South Units connected by an extensive trail system. With over 50 miles of multiuse trails, the park caters to hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. Notable routes include the two-mile Dinosaur Trail featuring fossilized trackways from Permian Age creatures, and the nearly six-mile Trailhead to Trailhead Route along the lakeshore. Trails are shared-use unless otherwise marked, and water troughs are located throughout the system for horses. Camping options range from developed sites with 30/50-amp electric and water hookups in the Red Arroyo and Bald Eagle areas to primitive drive-up sites and backpack-accessible tent sites in the River Bend area. Equestrian campers can reserve sites with horse pens in the North Concho area. The park also offers rustic log cabins and a group bunkhouse. Recreational opportunities include fishing in the reservoir and Concho River, boating from the launch ramp, swimming, and ranger-led programs covering bison/longhorn tours, nature, history, and stargazing.
