About

Located 16 miles southwest of Abilene on the shady banks of Elm Creek, Abilene State Park offers a wooded oasis in the Texas Midwest. Large pecan, red oak, cottonwood and elm trees arch over the campground where deer and other wildlife wander by. The park features Lake Abilene for fishing and boating, Buffalo Wallow Pond for fishing, and a historic swimming pool built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930s. The park offers over five miles of horse trails and several hiking trails, including an ADA-compliant Camping Loop Connecting Trail. Visitors can enjoy geocaching, bird watching, biking, sand volleyball, and horseshoes. Lake Abilene is a no-wake lake where canoes and kayaks can be rented from a vending machine. The park has two group recreation halls available for gatherings and special events. Abilene State Park provides diverse camping options including full hookup RV sites, water and electric sites, tent-only sites with water and electric, primitive tent sites with water only, screened shelters, and yurts. The park is open year-round with no gate, making it accessible for day use and camping any time.
