Devils River State Natural Area

Closed — Open Friday through Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Tuesday through Thursday. All camping requires advance reservations at least one day prior by calling (512) 389-8901. Entrance gate closes at 4 p.m.; visitors must arrive by then for orientation. Park closes at 10 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and at 5 p.m. on Monday.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of south central Texas, including the following counties, Edwards, Kinney, and Val Verde. * WHEN...Until 645 AM CDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 511 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Storms moving from Mexico into southern Val Verde County near Del Rio will bring additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch over the area. At 431 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms produced heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. Heavy rain has subsided for the time being, but additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Devils River State Natural Area encompasses over 37,000 acres across two units along one of the most pristine rivers in Texas. Far from cities in southwest Texas, this remote natural area offers wilderness camping experiences in a rugged landscape of scenic canyons, clear spring-fed waters, and brushy ridges. The Del Norte Unit features 8 primitive drive-up campsites and 2 hike-in sites accessible by approximately 2 miles of hiking. All campsites lack water, electricity, and restrooms, though a bathhouse with showers is available near the Visitor Center. The natural area offers over 25 miles of hiking and biking trails for exploring this protected wilderness. River access is a 1/3-mile hike from parking, where visitors can swim, fish, and paddle. The Devils River is designated for its wild and scenic character, with extended paddling trips recommended only for experienced paddlers. The area is recognized as an International Dark Sky Park, offering exceptional stargazing opportunities. Self-contained RVs and trailers are permitted at drive-up sites, and the park offers group barracks lodging with basic amenities.
