South Llano River State Park provides a unique Hill Country experience on the banks of the spring-fed South Llano River near Junction, Texas. The slow-moving river features two miles of park frontage with multiple access points ideal for tubing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and fishing. No fishing license is required within park boundaries. The park's extensive trail system covers 22.7 miles through diverse terrain including river bottoms, steep ridges, and wooded areas. Trails accommodate both hikers and mountain bikers with difficulty levels ranging from easy to challenging. The rugged backcountry trails offer solitude and panoramic views even during busy weekends. Wildlife watchers will appreciate that the park hosts one of the largest turkey roosts in Central Texas, with over 250 bird species recorded over the years. As an International Dark Sky Park, South Llano River State Park provides exceptional stargazing opportunities away from light pollution.
