About

Perched on a 200-foot bluff in Howard County, Big Spring State Park provides expansive views of the arid West Texas plains. The 382-acre park preserves impressive stone structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s, including a scenic overlook pavilion that remains available for group events. The park features a paved 3-mile loop road that winds up and around the bluff, offering ever-changing vistas and a gentle route for walkers, joggers, and cyclists. A separate 5-mile unpaved hike and bike trail plus a 2/3-mile nature trail provide additional exploration options through the mesquite and native grassland terrain. This is strictly a day-use facility with no overnight camping. The park opens at 8am and closes at sunset daily. Entrance is free. The only reservable facility is the historic CCC group pavilion, which accommodates up to 200 people at $70 per day for events and gatherings.
