About

Lake Brownwood State Park encompasses 538 acres along the southern shore of Lake Brownwood, a reservoir created by damming Pecan Bayou in the 1930s. The park features rolling terrain with post oak woodlands and mesquite grasslands typical of the Texas Hill Country transition zone. Multiple camping loops spread across the park offer sites ranging from full hookup RV accommodations to water-only tent sites. The park provides five distinct camping areas: Council Bluff with full hookup sites, Willow Point with water and electric, Comanche Trails with both electric and tent-only options, and water-only tent sites. Each area has restrooms with showers nearby. Fire rings with grills and picnic tables come standard at all sites. A dump station serves RV campers, and dumpsters are located throughout the camping loops. Historic CCC-built stone structures remain from the park's Depression-era construction. Trails wind through the property offering wildlife viewing opportunities. The lake typically provides fishing and swimming, though water levels fluctuate seasonally and may restrict access to boat ramps and swimming areas during drought conditions.
