About
Located in the southern portion of Adirondack Park along Route 30, Sacandaga Campground provides a peaceful base for exploring the region's natural beauty. The campground sits where the east and west branches of the Sacandaga River meet, creating splendid scenery and excellent fishing opportunities for brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, walleye, and smallmouth bass. The facility was originally developed as a stopover camping area in the early 1920s, known locally as "The Forks", and was further developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. The campground offers 143 sites nestled among white pines and northern hardwoods, each with a picnic table and fireplace. Nearby attractions include Auger Falls, located 10 miles north with a relatively easy 1.5-mile hike to the falls, and access to the 133-mile Northville-Lake Placid Trail. The Silver Lake Wilderness Area lies to the west and Wilcox Lake Wild Forest to the east. During spring high water periods, the river attracts kayakers and canoeists. A boat launch on the backside of Algonquin Lake provides access for boating and canoeing.
