Special Weather Statement issued May 2 at 2:25PM EDT by NWS Albany NY
The combination of drying fine fuels, northwest wind gusts between 25 and 30 mph, and relative humidity values between 25 and 35 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread Sunday afternoon for portions of the mid and upper Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills, Taconics and Greater Capital District regions in eastern New York. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.

About
Luzerne Campground and Day Use Area partially surrounds Fourth Lake, a 51-acre body of water with a maximum depth of 41 feet located in the southern Adirondacks near Lake Luzerne. The campground opened in 1967 and has grown to 173 tent and trailer sites. No motor boats are allowed on Fourth Lake, creating a peaceful atmosphere ideal for canoeing, kayaking, and rowboating. Boat rentals are available on-site. The campground features modern amenities including two shower buildings with hot water, flush toilets, a trailer dump station, and a recycling center. A designated swimming beach provides access to the lake, and anglers can fish for bass, northern pike, yellow perch, bullhead, trout, and pumpkinseed. The picnic area includes tables, fireplaces, and charcoal grills, with a pavilion available for rental. Luzerne is notable for its equestrian facilities, featuring 22 horse paddocks and 2 covered standing stalls. Horse trails are open exclusively to campground guests, including a five-mile trail around Fourth Lake and access to park roads. Proof of a current negative Coggins certificate is required for all horses, and out-of-state owners must provide a 30-day health certificate. Nearby attractions include Prospect Mountain hiking trail and the broader recreational opportunities of the Lake George region.
