About
Moffitt Beach Campground sits on the shores of picturesque Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondack Park, offering 260 large, level campsites within a canopy of towering white pine and hardwood trees. Many sites are located directly on the water's edge, providing rustic camping with lake views. The campground provides hot showers with flush toilets, a trailer dump station, and nine accessible campsites designed for visitors with mobility impairments. The facility features a sand beach with bathhouse for swimming, a boat launch for accessing the lake's excellent fishing and water sports, and a picnic area with pavilion rental available. An informal nature trail winds through the pines near the campground. Sacandaga Lake offers fishing for walleye, rainbow trout, brown trout, smallmouth bass, brown bullhead, perch, rock bass, and whitefish. The campground is situated adjacent to the 47,000-acre Jessup River Wild Forest, providing miles of hiking opportunities including the popular Fawn Lake Trail. The area is generally flat and well-wooded at an elevation of 1,730 feet. A Junior Naturalist program offers games and activities for children ages 5-13. The historic site was developed beginning in 1932 with help from the Civilian Conservation Corps and named after Josiah Moffitt, a local stone mason who settled in the region before 1840.
