About
Northampton Beach Campground occupies a prime location on the northwest corner of Great Sacandaga Lake, a 29-mile-long reservoir created in 1930 that offers 26,000 acres of water surface at full pool. The campground provides 223 large, level campsites that vary from secluded wooded locations within tall white pines and northern hardwoods to open sites along the sandy shoreline. The facility caters to water enthusiasts with a natural sand beach featuring guarded swimming from mid-June through Labor Day, a large craft boat launch, and on-site canoe, kayak, and rowboat rentals. Anglers can pursue northern pike, chain pickerel, smallmouth and largemouth bass, walleye, yellow perch, and other species. The campground includes hot showers and flush toilets, a trailer dump station, recycling center, and a picnic pavilion available for rental. Seven accessible campsites and two accessible shower buildings accommodate visitors with disabilities. Originally developed for swimming and picnicking when the reservoir was created in the 1920s, the camping area was added in 1961 with flush toilets and showers following in the late 1960s. The campground offers a Junior Naturalist program for children ages 5-13 and provides access to nearby Adirondack hiking trails, including the Northville-Lake Placid Trail that begins approximately 1.5 miles away in Northville and extends 133 miles to Lake Placid. Shopping, restaurants, and golf courses are available in the surrounding area.
