About
Rye Spur Horse Camp is a primitive dispersed camping area located at the Rye Spur Trailhead in the Fremont-Winema National Forest, approximately 50 minutes northwest of Klamath Falls, Oregon. The site serves as a staging area for equestrians accessing the Rye Spur Trail, a 6.2-mile pack and saddle trail specifically designed with higher clearing limits and wider turns to accommodate horses. The trail cuts through a dense and shady mixed conifer forest, traveling south from Fourmile Lake to Highway 140 at Lake of the Woods. Wildlife viewing opportunities include deer and various bird species. The area is also used by mountain bikers. This is a primitive site with minimal amenities. A single vault toilet is available, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring adequate supplies. There is no fee to camp. The site operates seasonally from late June through September, weather dependent.
Directions
From Klamath Falls, take Oregon Highway 140 west toward Medford for approximately 29 miles. Turn right onto Forest Service Road 3661 (Fourmile Lake Road). Travel 3.5 miles, then turn right onto the 360 spur road and follow to the end.
