About
Fourmile Lake Campground sits at the southern gateway to the 113,400-acre Sky Lakes Wilderness in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. Located on the northeast shore of Fourmile Lake with exceptional views of Mt. McLoughlin, this rustic campground is designed for those seeking a true backcountry experience with minimal amenities. The 29-site campground includes standard camping sites and nine equestrian sites with horse corrals in the upper portion of the campground. The campground's remote location makes it an ideal base camp for exploring the Sky Lakes Wilderness, which features gentle, densely forested terrain with occasional steep areas. The wilderness derives its name from the many small lakes clustered in glacial basins near the Cascade Range crest. The forest is composed of Shasta red fir, western white pine, mountain hemlock, lodgepole pine, Engelmann spruce, and whitebark pine, with an understory of huckleberry, manzanita, snowbrush, and heather. Visitors enjoy hiking, backpacking, climbing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, horse packing, bird watching, and stargazing. The Pacific Crest Trail is within two miles of the campground. Fourmile Lake's water level fluctuates with snowmelt each year, and the shoreline consists of sand and pebbly rocks. This is a rustic facility with no electricity and very limited cell phone service. The campground offers both reservable and first-come, first-served sites.
