About

Sunset Campground occupies a prime lakefront position on Lake of the Woods in Oregon's Fremont-Winema National Forest. The 64 campsites spread across three loops beneath towering conifers, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Views across the lake showcase the stunning 9,495-foot Mt. McLoughlin. Three renovated restroom buildings serve the campground, featuring electric flush toilets, running water, and automatic hand dryers. Two sites are ADA accessible, and a limited number of sites offer electric hookups. The adjacent day use area provides excellent water access with a boat ramp, trailer parking, and a compact gravelly beach for swimming. Anglers target rainbow and brown trout, kokanee salmon, bass, and perch from boats or shore. The nearby Sky Lakes Wilderness offers over 200 alpine lakes within hiking distance. Lake of the Woods Resort, located nearby, provides dining options, boat rentals, and basic supplies for campers needing provisions. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, and pronghorn antelope frequenting the area. Black bears, mountain lions, and bobcats also inhabit the forest. The area serves as a staging point for visiting Crater Lake National Park and the Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway.
