About

Sunset Campground occupies a prime location on the banks of Lake of the Woods in south central Oregon's Fremont-Winema National Forest, approximately 40 minutes west of Klamath Falls. The 64 campsites are widely spaced beneath a towering conifer forest, with many offering lakefront views showcasing the stunning 9,495-foot Mt. McLoughlin. The campground is in close proximity to the Sky Lakes Wilderness, a 27-mile long wilderness area containing more than 200 alpine lakes, rocky ridges, and timbered slopes. The campground features three renovated restroom buildings with electric flush toilets, running water, and automatic hand dryers. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings, and can accommodate RVs and trailers. Four sites offer electric hookups. Two sites are ADA accessible. A camp host is on-site during the operating season. The adjacent day-use area features a boat ramp, boat trailer parking, a compact gravel swimming beach, and additional picnic facilities. Recreation opportunities abound with fishing for rainbow and brown trout, Kokanee salmon, bass, and perch. Both motorized and non-motorized boating, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing are popular activities. The area offers excellent hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding access. Wildlife viewing opportunities include mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, black bears, and various waterfowl. The campground is located along Dead Indian Memorial Road, with Crater Lake National Park and the Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway within reasonable driving distance.
