Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations accepted. No potable water available; campers must bring their own supply.
About
Ruling Creek Campground is a small, primitive facility operated by Pacific Gas & Electric along the Pit River in Shasta County. Located roughly 9.5 miles downstream from Lake Britton and near the Pit 4 Dam tunnel entrance, the campground offers direct access to one of Northern California's premier wild trout fisheries. The campground has 8 campsites suitable for tents, trailers, and RVs. All sites are first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. Most sites have at least partial shade. Facilities are basic: vault toilets are provided but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Fire rings are available at sites. McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park lies about 10 miles to the north, making for an excellent day trip to see the iconic 129-foot waterfall. The surrounding area offers additional hiking and fishing opportunities throughout the Pit River canyon.
Directions
From the junction of Highway 299 and Highway 89, travel north on Highway 89 for approximately 9.7 miles. The campground is accessible from Highway 89 near Montgomery Creek.
