Ruling Creek Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. PG&E campgrounds typically open in spring after snow melts and close in fall. The campground operates seasonally, generally reopening sometime after spring snowmelt.

About

Ruling Creek Campground is operated by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) along the scenic Pit River in Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Located near the Pit 4 dam and tunnel entrance, this campground was established to provide anglers and outdoor enthusiasts with convenient riverside access to one of Northern California's premier fly fishing destinations. The campground sits at a lower elevation along the Pit River corridor, accessible via Pit River Road. Sites are equipped with fire pits and picnic tables, with vault toilets available on-site. Campers should come prepared with their own drinking water, as potable water is not reliably available. The riverside location offers excellent fishing access and opportunities to explore the Pit River's unique geothermal waters. The campground typically operates seasonally from spring through fall, with exact dates dependent on weather conditions and snow melt. Winter access may be limited due to seasonal road conditions and reduced services typical of PG&E campgrounds at this elevation.
