About

Madrone Campground is a remote, fee-free primitive camping area situated in the forested hills east of Shasta Lake within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The campground offers 10 shaded sites equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, providing a peaceful retreat for those seeking solitude away from the more developed recreation areas around Shasta Lake. As a pack-it-in, pack-it-out facility, campers must bring their own water and remove all trash. Vault toilets are provided. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required. There is no lake access from this location. Access to Madrone requires navigating Fenders Ferry Road, a rough and unimproved dirt road that limits trailers to 16 feet. The remote setting makes this campground particularly popular with OHV enthusiasts exploring the surrounding national forest lands.

Directions

From I-5, take Highway 299 East 31 miles to Fenders Ferry Road (Road 27). On Fenders Ferry Road, drive approximately 18 miles. Note: Fenders Ferry is a rough, unimproved dirt road.
