About

Rockland Recreation Area is located on the shore of Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee, approximately 20 to 25 minutes from Nashville. The Army Corps of Engineers facility offers five covered group shelters and one gazebo, all equipped with tables and grills. The area is popular for day-use recreation including bank fishing along the shoreline, with excellent opportunities to catch bass, crappie, walleye, sauger, and catfish. Set in a moderately wooded environment, the recreation area features volleyball courts, playground equipment, and large grassy areas suitable for group gatherings. Nature trails wind through the wooded areas, providing habitat for numerous wetland species, migratory birds during winter months, and year-round forest birds. The area offers access to Old Hickory Lake for waterskiing, boating, swimming, and hiking. The Old Hickory Lake Resource Manager's Office and Visitor Center are located directly within Rockland Recreation Area, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about the lake's history, navigational facilities, and programs. Old Hickory Lake was created by the Army Corps of Engineers on the Cumberland River and is named after former President Andrew Jackson.

Directions

From Nashville, take I-65 North to TN-386/Vietnam Veterans Boulevard. Continue east on TN-386 to exit 3 for US-31E toward Hendersonville. Turn right onto Rockland Road at the first red light, travel approximately 0.6 miles. Turn right onto Power Plant Road, then turn left onto Overlook Circle.
