Old Hickory Beach

Closed — Closed for the winter season. The facility typically operates seasonally from spring through fall. Day-use fee is $5 per vehicle.

About

Old Hickory Beach sits along the scenic shoreline of the 22,500-acre Old Hickory Lake, a Cumberland River reservoir named after President Andrew Jackson. This day-use area is designed for visitors seeking lakeside recreation, with a sandy swimming beach perfect for families, boat ramps for easy water access, and a playground for children. The facility features a large reservable group picnic shelter that can accommodate up to 100 guests, along with grills for cooking out and a smaller shelter near the beach. The lake provides exceptional fishing opportunities, with abundant populations of catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass available for both bank and boat fishing. Swimming and sailing are popular summer activities. Birders can spot a variety of waterfowl, wading birds, migratory songbirds, and occasional Blue herons or Snowy egrets. Other wildlife in the area includes wild turkey, rabbits, and white-tailed deer. Hikers can explore the nearby 1.1-mile Old Hickory Lake Nature Trail below Old Hickory Dam, featuring three loops covering varying terrain: the Woodland Loop, Willow Swamp Loop, and Wildlife Loop. The facility is conveniently located near downtown Nashville, offering easy access to urban entertainment while maintaining a peaceful lakeside setting. A $5 per vehicle day-use fee applies, and parking is limited.
