About
Avondale is a day-use recreation area located on Old Hickory Lake, a 22,500-acre reservoir on the Cumberland River in Middle Tennessee. The facility provides boaters with year-round access to the main channel of Old Hickory Lake, making it an ideal launching point for fishing, water skiing, wakeboarding, and other water sports. Black bass, crappie, and paddlefish are commonly caught in the area. The site includes a group picnic shelter that can accommodate up to 50 people and approximately 30 vehicles. The shelter is available for weekday reservations from May through Labor Day, while weekends, holidays, and off-season use is first-come, first-served. Seasonal flush toilets are available on-site. Important: Avondale is strictly a day-use area. Overnight camping is not permitted. Campers seeking overnight accommodations should consider nearby Cages Bend Campground, which offers 42 water and electric sites on Old Hickory Lake.
