About
Avondale serves as a popular day-use area on Old Hickory Lake, a 22,500-acre reservoir on the Cumberland River just northeast of Nashville. The site provides an ideal launching point for boat fishing, with black bass, crappie, and paddlefish found in the area. Bank fishing, water skiing, sailing, wakeboarding, and swimming are also popular activities on the lake. The facility features a group picnic shelter that accommodates up to 50 people and approximately 30 vehicles, reservable on weekdays from May through Labor Day. The picnic shelter operates first-come, first-served during holidays, weekends, and the off-season. A boat ramp provides year-round access to the main channel of Old Hickory Lake. Seasonal flush toilets are available on-site. Located in Middle Tennessee near Hendersonville, the lake is named after President Andrew Jackson, who earned the nickname "Old Hickory" for his tough personality. Nearby attractions include Cages Bend Campground, Bledsoe Creek State Park, and Nashville's Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame. This location is unstaffed and camping is not permitted.
