About

Rock Creek Campground occupies a scenic stretch of the western shore of Crane Prairie Reservoir along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, approximately 50 miles southwest of Bend. The campground features 32 sites spread across 5 loops, with almost all sites being large and well-isolated from neighboring campers. Many sites sit directly on the reservoir shoreline, offering prime access for anglers and boaters. Crane Prairie Reservoir is renowned for its fishing opportunities, with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife managing healthy populations of rainbow trout, mountain whitefish, brook trout, and largemouth bass. The campground includes a boat launch and fish cleaning stations. Beyond fishing, the area provides exceptional wildlife viewing. Sandhill cranes, bald eagles, and osprey frequent the reservoir, while the surrounding forest hosts black-backed woodpeckers, Williamson's sapsuckers, and mountain chickadees. On summer mornings and evenings, visitors may spot Rocky Mountain elk grazing in lakeside meadows. Nearby Osprey Point offers an interpretive area where visitors can observe osprey nesting platforms erected after natural snags toppled from age. The Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway climbs 66 miles through the Cascade Range, weaving past snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes.
