About
Richardson Campground offers a quiet, rustic camping experience in the Castle Mountains of the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. Located at 5,500 feet elevation on an 8-acre hillside covered in lodgepole pine, this small campground provides just 3 sites for those seeking solitude. Richardson Creek flows nearby, and scenic hiking trails are accessible directly from the campground. The campground is primitive but well-equipped for basic camping. Each site includes a fire ring or grill and a picnic table. An ADA-accessible vault toilet serves the area, though no potable water is available. The maximum recommended trailer length is 16 feet due to the forest road access and site configurations. This is a first-come, first-served campground with no reservations. A food storage order is in effect from March 1 through December 1 to prevent bear conflicts. Leashed dogs are welcome, but horses are prohibited. All OHVs must remain on the campground road.
Directions
Turn south near Mile Post 49 about 7 miles east of White Sulphur Springs on US Highway 12, then go 5 miles south on Forest Road 211.
