Kings Hill Campground sits at approximately 8,000 feet elevation, making it the highest developed campground in the Little Belt Mountains. Located near the top of Kings Hill Pass along the scenic US Highway 89, this campground offers 18 well-spaced campsites nestled in a deep lodgepole pine forest setting. The remote location provides a peaceful mountain camping experience with moderate use levels. The campground serves as an excellent base for summer recreation activities. Between July 1st and August 31st, campers can access a network of forest roads and ATV trails heading west from the campground. During fire season, the nearby Porphyry Peak Lookout offers amazing views from the manned fire tower dating back to 1960, and visitors are welcome to climb up into the lookout when staff are available. Small and big game hunting are popular in the area, and wildlife watching opportunities abound in the surrounding forest. Facilities include vault toilets and drinking water available from a hand pump. The campground can accommodate trailers up to 35 feet in length. Mandatory food storage is required due to bear activity in the area. The high elevation means the camping season is relatively short, typically opening in mid to late June and closing around the end of September, making it the first campground in the area to close for winter.

Directions

From Neihart, go about 8 miles south on US Highway 89. The campground is situated near the top of Kings Hill Pass. From Great Falls, travel approximately 23 miles east on Highway 87/89, turn right (south) at the rest area/weigh station just past Belt onto US Highway 89 toward Monarch and Neihart, then drive approximately 50 miles to Kings Hill Pass.
