Grasshopper Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. The campground typically closes in early December and reopens in spring depending on snowfall conditions. First-come, first-served only, no reservations available.

About

Grasshopper Campground is the only developed campground in the Castle Mountains, situated on a scenic hillside above Grasshopper Creek, just 11 miles from White Sulphur Springs. The campground features 12 first-come, first-served sites that cannot be reserved in advance. Each site includes a fire ring or grill and a picnic table. The campground is particularly popular with hunters in the fall, as it typically remains open later in the season than other campgrounds in the area. The campground can accommodate trailers up to 22 feet in length but is not suitable for large RVs. Above the campground, visitors can access a motorcycle trail that operates from December 1st through October 15th. A food storage order is in effect from March 1st to December 1st to prevent human-bear conflicts, requiring all unattended food and attractants to be properly stored. Camping is limited to 16 consecutive days in one location. A nightly fee of $10 is collected at a self-serve fee station, and payment is required even when water is unavailable. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed. Horses are not allowed in the campground, and motorized OHVs must stay on the campground road. Hunters should note that game cannot be hung within the campground.
