Jumping Creek Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. Typically opens late May and operates through October, depending on snowfall conditions.

About

Located at 5,800 feet elevation along US Highway 89 in the Little Belt Mountains, Jumping Creek Campground offers a convenient basecamp for exploring central Montana's backcountry. The 10 campsites are situated along Sheep Creek, which provides fishing opportunities for brook and rainbow trout. Several sites can accommodate long trailers, with a maximum length of 45 feet. The campground serves as a staging area for exploring nearby historic logging roads that provide motorized access to the Smoky Mountain area. To the east on US Highway 89, an ATV trailhead leads to a scenic route climbing Mizpah Peak. The area is managed as first-come, first-served with no advance reservations available. Each campsite includes a fire ring or grill and picnic table. Vault toilets are accessible, and drinking water is available during the warmer operating months. The campground operates under a food storage order from March 1st to December 1st to prevent human-bear conflicts.
