Hunters Spring Cabin

Hunters Spring Cabin offers a secluded mountain retreat in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest near Whitetail Creek. The two-story frame house accommodates up to eight guests across three bedrooms. The kitchen comes equipped with a propane cook stove, refrigerator, cooking pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. A wood stove provides heat, with firewood supplied. The dining room has a table and chairs. The cabin operates year-round but has seasonal access restrictions. From approximately December 1 through April 15, the road is not plowed and access is limited to snowmobile, cross-country skis, or snowshoes. Summer visitors can drive via Forest Road 274. No potable water, electricity, or sewer is available; guests must bring drinking water, bedding, food, warm clothing, flashlights, matches, garbage bags, and cleaning supplies. The surrounding area supports hunting, hiking, OHV riding, mountain biking, and horseback riding in summer, with snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in winter. Bears frequent the area; mandatory food storage is required. Check-out is 11:00 AM, and guests must clean the cabin before departure.

Directions

From Harlowton, go west 32 miles on US Highway 12 to Forest Road 274 (Spring Creek Road). In summer, take Forest Road 274 for 13 miles past Whitetail Camp to Forest Road 6429, turn right and drive 0.5 miles to the cabin. In winter, park at mile marker 7 on Forest Road 274 and travel 6 miles by snowmobile or skis to Forest Road 6429. The gate on Road 6429 uses the same combination lock as the cabin.
