About
Located at the end of Reds Meadow Road in the Inyo National Forest, Reds Meadow Campground offers 52 campsites nestled in a shady pine forest at 9,600 feet elevation. The campground provides convenient access to some of the Sierra Nevada's most iconic destinations, including Devils Postpile National Monument, Rainbow Falls, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the John Muir Trail. The San Joaquin River flows nearby, adding to the scenic mountain setting. The campground operates entirely on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. While some sites are close together, others are tucked among the trees providing more privacy. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food locker. Access requires driving a narrow, single-lane road, and while campers may drive into Reds Meadow Valley, a shuttle/amenity fee applies. The area experiences heavy visitation during the summer season. This is an active bear area, and all food and scented items must be stored in the provided bear boxes at all times. The campground provides flush toilets and potable water via hand pump. Due to the high elevation and seasonal snow, the campground typically operates only during summer months. Road reconstruction projects may impact access timing in upcoming seasons.
