About

Lake George Campground is a small, wooded campground perched at 9,000 feet elevation in the Mammoth Lakes Basin within Inyo National Forest. With only 15 walk-in campsites, this intimate campground offers one of the finest camping experiences in the Eastern Sierra. Located a short walk from the shores of Lake George, the highest road-accessible lake in the Mammoth Lakes Basin, campers enjoy easy access to fishing for rainbow trout and a network of hiking trails leading to Crystal Lake, TJ Lake, and Barrett Lakes. The campground shares its parking area with popular trailheads, a boat rental dock, and a few cabins, making it particularly popular with fishermen and families. Dramatic views of Crystal Crag and the Mammoth Crest create a stunning backdrop for camping. This is an active bear area, and bear boxes are provided at each site for proper food storage. Due to the high elevation, nights can be quite chilly even in summer, but the clear mountain air provides exceptional stargazing opportunities.
