About
Agnew Meadows Group Camp is nestled in the spectacular Reds Meadow Valley section of the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains, just west of Mammoth Lakes. At 8,400 feet elevation, the campground sits in a lodgepole pine forest surrounded by high mountain peaks, adjacent to creeks and small lakes. The facility offers group sites designed for 10-20 people, making it popular with large families and organized groups. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. Within a few miles, hikers can access the High Trail, Shadow Creek Trail, and River Trail, all open to hiking and horseback riding. Trailheads to the Ansel Adams Wilderness and Pacific Crest Trail are nearby, with shuttle access required during peak season. Devils Postpile National Monument is a short distance away, offering unique geological features and additional recreational opportunities. Fishing enthusiasts can pursue trout in area lakes and the North Fork of the San Joaquin River. The location is known for high bear activity, and bear-proof lockers are provided at each site for storing food and scented items. Spring and early summer bring impressive wildflower displays to the meadows. Reds Meadow Pack Station and Resort, located nearby, offers horseback riding tours, a general store, and cafe. Access is via the narrow, single-lane Reds Meadow Road, which presents a scenic but challenging drive into the valley.
