About
Twin Lakes Campground is located in the Mammoth Lakes Basin at 8,600 feet elevation, at the base of 11,059-foot Mammoth Mountain. The campground offers 92 sites split into three sections: Sections 1 and 2 on the west side closer to the lakeshore, and Section 3 set on a hillside. The lodgepole pine forest provides partial shade and privacy between sites. The 108-acre Twin Lakes offer excellent trout fishing for rainbow, brook, and brown trout. A waterfall cascades directly into the lake, visible from many sites. Canoes and kayaks are welcome; motorized boats must use electric motors only. Several hiking trails are accessible nearby, including a 4-mile trail on Mammoth Mountain and shorter nature trails along the lakes. This is an active bear area with bear-proof food lockers at each site. All food and scented items must be stored in the bear boxes; vehicle storage is prohibited. The nearby town of Mammoth Lakes provides additional amenities including a general store with showers and boat rentals within walking distance.
