About
Red Feather Campground is situated on the eastern shore of the 1,615-acre Little Grass Valley Reservoir in the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains of Plumas National Forest. At an elevation of 5,060 feet, the campground features 60 reservable campsites surrounded by mixed-conifer forest and alpine meadows, with 12 premium sites offering direct lake views. All sites are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and paved parking pads suitable for both tent and RV camping. The reservoir provides excellent opportunities for fishing, with trout and kokanee salmon being popular catches. The nearby Maidu boat launch ramp provides access for boating and water skiing. The campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the 13.5-mile Lakeshore Trail, which loops around the reservoir and connects to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. Day hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding are popular activities. The area is also home to diverse wildlife, and bears are frequently spotted, so proper food storage is essential. Campground amenities include a seasonal host, flush toilets, potable water, trash service with bear-resistant bins, and paved roads throughout. The Little Grass Valley Recreation Area, managed by the Feather River Ranger District, typically opens in late June or early July as one of the last areas to become accessible after snowmelt.
