About
Red Feather Campground sits on the eastern shore of Little Grass Valley Reservoir in Plumas National Forest, providing access to a beautiful 1,615-acre mountain lake surrounded by thick stands of pine and fir trees. At an elevation of 5,100 feet in the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains, the campground features 60 sites including 12 prime lakeside locations. The reservoir was formed by dam construction and flooding of the valley in the 1960s. The lake offers excellent opportunities for fishing, with anglers catching various species of trout and kokanee salmon. Boating, water skiing, and swimming are popular activities on the reservoir. The 13.5-mile Lakeshore Trail loops around the lake and is available for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. This trail connects to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, providing access to extended backcountry adventures. About 12 miles northeast lies Fowler Lake, a small natural lily pond perfect for day hikes. The campground is one of eight developed campgrounds around Little Grass Valley Reservoir. The area's remote location is accessed via mountain roads from Oroville or Highway 20, making it a peaceful destination for those seeking a Sierra Nevada mountain lake experience. The campground includes paved roads and parking pads at each site.
