About

Horse Camp is the only equestrian campground among the eight facilities surrounding Little Grass Valley Reservoir in Plumas National Forest. Situated on the reservoir's eastern shore at 5,060 feet, it offers 10 single-family campsites designed specifically for horse campers. Each site features a hitching post, lantern post, bear box, picnic table, and fire ring with grill. Hand-pumped potable water and accessible vault toilets serve the campground. The location provides direct access to excellent riding opportunities, including the Lakeshore Trail and connections to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail via Bald Mountain Trailhead. The adjacent mountain lake supports fishing, swimming, and boating. Campers must bring a shovel and pack out horse manure. A 14-day stay limit applies, with a maximum of 8 people and 2 vehicles per site. Reservations for 8 of the 10 sites are available through Recreation.gov, with senior and Access passes honored. The campground typically operates from mid-June through fall, closing when snow restricts access.
