About

Little Grass Valley Horse Camp is the only equestrian-equipped campground among eight campgrounds surrounding Little Grass Valley Reservoir in the Plumas National Forest. Located on the reservoir's eastern shore at 5,060 feet elevation in the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains, the campground offers 10 sites specifically designed to accommodate horse trailers with ample space and dedicated equestrian amenities. Each campsite features a hitching post, lantern post, picnic table, and fire ring with grill. The campground provides two accessible vault toilets, hand-pumped potable water (seasonal), and trash service during the operating season. Eight of the ten sites are available for advance reservation through Recreation.gov. A warming hut is available during winter months for snowmobile enthusiasts, as the area becomes a popular snowmobiling destination. The 1,615-acre Little Grass Valley Reservoir provides opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, and water skiing. The campground serves as a trailhead for the Lakeshore Trail, which loops 14.5 miles around the reservoir and is open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. From the nearby Bald Mountain Trailhead, riders can access the Pacific Crest Trail. Campers must bring a shovel and pack out all horse manure. The area is bear country, requiring proper food storage.
