About
Horse Campground sits on the eastern shore of the 1,615-acre Little Grass Valley Reservoir in Plumas National Forest. It is specifically designed for equestrian campers, with ample trailer parking and hitching posts at each of its 10 single-family sites. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring with grill, lantern post, and bear box for food storage. The campground has two accessible vault toilets and hand-pumped potable water. The reservoir offers fishing for trout and kokanee salmon (license required), swimming, boating, and water skiing. The 14.5-mile Lakeshore Trail loops around the lake and is open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Riders can access the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail via the Bald Mountain Trailhead, though bicycles are prohibited on the PCT. Campers must pack out all horse manure and bring a shovel. Bears inhabit the area, so proper food storage in the provided bear boxes is required. The campground enforces a 14-day stay limit with a maximum of 8 people and 2 vehicles per site.
