About

Red Bluff Campground is named for the dramatic red bluffs that tower above Huzzah Creek, geological formations carved by natural forces over millennia. The area's history dates to the Boyer Mill constructed around 1830, followed by a thriving timber industry that depleted by the early 1900s. The U.S. Forest Service acquired the land in 1940 and transformed it into a recreation area. The campground underwent major reconstruction completed in 2023, with three new loops built above the floodplain: Ridge Top Loop, Creek Loop, and Group Loop. These loops feature modern restrooms with flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, and electric hookups with 30 and 50 amp service. The renovated Pines Overlook loop provides non-electric camping. A new shower house, dump station, and second pavilion enhance visitor amenities. Camping spurs accommodate RVs and trailers of all sizes, making the campground big rig friendly. Paved roads connect all loops. Huzzah Creek is the centerpiece of recreation, with most sites within 200 yards of the water. The creek features gravel bars, pools, and riffles ideal for wading, swimming, and tubing, though the current can be swift and hazards are unmarked. Anglers fish for bass, sunfish, perch, suckers, and catfish. The Red Bluff Trail, a 1.2-mile loop within the campground boundaries, winds through pine plantations and oak timber into adjoining hollows. The natural setting combines creek-side gravel bars with oak-pine forest in the Potosi-Fredericktown Ranger District.
