About

Dillard Mill State Historic Site preserves one of Missouri's best-preserved water-powered gristmills, completed in 1908 by Polish immigrant Emil Mischke. The barn-red mill sits picturesquely on Huzzah Creek in the heart of the Ozarks. The site is managed by Missouri State Parks under a lease agreement with the L-A-D Foundation since 1975. The limited day-use area includes a covered, accessible picnic shelter with picnic tables, pedestal grills, two accessible restrooms, and a playground. Five picnic tables with grills are located in the parking area. The shelter can be reserved in advance or used first-come, first-served when unreserved. The site also features a 1.5-mile hiking trail that winds through glade and wooded uplands east of the mill, offering rugged hiking opportunities through typical Ozark terrain. Mill tours are offered by state park staff during operating hours for a nominal fee. The mill's original grain milling machinery remains intact and in operating condition. The property also includes Dillard Cemetery and field exhibits explaining the hamlet's history.
