About

Susquehannock State Forest encompasses 265,000 acres across Potter, Clinton, and McKean counties in the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds. As one of the largest and most remote state forests in Pennsylvania, it offers a genuine wilderness camping experience for those seeking solitude. The forest contains some of the most productive black cherry stands in the world and maintains dual certification under Forest Stewardship Council and Sustainable Forestry Initiative standards. The forest offers 62 designated campsites divided between traditional roadside sites and equestrian camping areas. The 41 roadside sites are singular, remote locations along dirt and gravel forest roads, some accommodating small RVs and trailers with equipment lengths ranging from 30-100 feet depending on the site. The 21 equestrian sites at Dyer and Horsey Hilton camping areas include trailer parking, hitching posts, picnic tables, and fire rings. All camping is primitive with no hookups, dump stations, potable water, or trash service. Recreational opportunities abound including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding on designated trails, fishing for native brook trout, hunting, ATV riding on designated trails, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling in winter. Backpack camping is also permitted throughout most of the forest without a permit for single-night stays.
