About

Patterson State Park offers a rustic camping experience in one of Pennsylvania's most remote corners. Located 6.5 miles south of Sweden Valley on PA Route 44, this small primitive campground provides approximately 8-10 tent sites arranged around a central gravel loop. All sites are first-come, first-served using an honor system with payment envelopes at the registration kiosk. The campground operates seasonally from April through late October. The park is surrounded by thousands of acres of northern hardwoods within the Susquehannock State Forest and serves as the primary trailhead for the 85-mile Susquehannock Trail, a favorite among backpackers. Each campsite includes a fire ring and picnic table, with vault toilets and a hand pump for potable water available. There are no showers or electrical hookups, making this an ideal destination for those seeking a true primitive camping experience. Beyond camping, Patterson offers two rustic picnic pavilions and serves as a base for hunting and other forest recreation. Cell service is extremely limited, so visitors should download maps before arriving. The park is administered through the Lyman Run State Park office.
