About

Patterson State Park is located in a remote area of north central Pennsylvania within the Susquehannock State Forest. This rustic campground caters exclusively to tent campers, offering approximately 10 primitive campsites in a backcountry setting. The park is best known as a trailhead for the Susquehannock Trail, a favorite among backpackers, and also connects to a 15-mile mountain bike trail running between Denton Hill State Park and Cherry Springs State Park. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations accepted. Campers use an honor system, paying at the registration kiosk via envelopes before setting up camp. The remote location provides visitors with a quiet, secluded camping experience away from crowds and modern conveniences. Facilities are minimal, reflecting the park's rustic character. Non-flush restrooms are available for campground guests, and two picnic pavilions offer shaded spots for meals. The campground does not accommodate RVs or trailers, has no hookups, and lacks modern amenities like showers or dump stations. This primitive setup appeals to outdoor enthusiasts seeking an authentic wilderness camping experience in Pennsylvania's northern tier.
