About
Forked Lake Campground is a remote wilderness destination on the east shore of 1,248-acre Forked Lake in Hamilton County, New York. Unlike typical drive-up campgrounds, most sites here are accessible only by boat or foot trail, creating a secluded backcountry atmosphere. Sites 3-34 and 63-78 require boat and/or trail access, while sites 35-62 are boat-access only. Only three drive-to sites can accommodate hard-sided camping units up to 20 feet.
The campground provides essential amenities including pit toilets, water spigots, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site. Due to high bear activity in the area, bear-proof food lockers are provided at all boat and trail-access sites. Canoe, kayak, and rowboat rentals are available, along with firewood sales. The lake supports excellent fishing for brook trout, brown trout, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bullhead, yellow perch, and panfish.
Nearby hiking opportunities include the Forked Lake Trail and the popular Owls Head Mountain Trail. The campground operates on a carry-in, carry-out policy for trash. Quiet hours are strictly enforced from 10 PM to 7 AM.
Directions
From State Routes 28N and 30 at Deerland, drive southwest on County Road 3 (North Point Road) and then County Road 20 (Forked Lake Campsite Lane) to the campground entrance at 381 Forked Lake Campsite Lane, Long Lake, NY 12847.
